Why would the manufacture (OEM Coils) have shorter springs?
Hyundai Motor company uses shorter spring coils just like most automotive manufactures, and they rely on the coil to arch to fire the plug. But why do they do this? The answer is simple, easy installation from factory, to easy inspection of the plugs during service. While these are performance engines, they are well held back in power, the standard coil pack style works without issue, however under high power setups, ignition break up can happen, this is where LR3 coils step in.

  • Seal with valve cover is altered to pressure seal with 10mm bolt installed (rubber does not wrap around the valve cover) this is a 100% watertight seal.

 

 

 

Installation Directions

Installation is extremely difficult on the Smartstream Engines, and requires patience to ensure the spring is on the tip of the plug before compressing the spring. Please read our installation Directions and follow them step by step. Failure to due so will result in misfires immediately from installation. Poorly installed coils are not covered under warranty.

Line up the spring with the tip of the plug, you will feel a small "bounce" like effect, once lined up push straight down on the coil top and tighten the 10mm bolt with your other hand., improper Installation can lead to spring collapsing. Basically, you want to push the coilpack down at perfect 180 degree angle to the valve cover, then the spring compress properly. We suggest using your dominate hand to push down on the coil, while your other hand tightens the bolt, ensuring not to move the coil side to side while holding down.

Boot of the coil seals on the top of the valve cover and does not wrap around the valve cover, however this seal is watertight.

While Installation can be a pain, but it is well worth it!

Note July 13th 2024; We have made the spring 3mm shorter to aid installation. More importantly, proving our dedication to perfection!
